  Virgin Islands

British Virgin Islands

Cuan Law, January 1998, Milo Schmidt, San Francisco, CA. Diving mediocre. Boat is the best I have been on and worth the trip. Crew and divemaster excellent, chef terrific. Vis: 30-40 ft, water: 78-84 degrees. . . . Tortola Island very scenic, and the people are helpful and friendly. Stayed at the Sugar Mill resort to relax and visit the island. This resort is a must. Everything you could want to relax. (Ph: 809-494-2490, Fax: 809-494-5774)

Yacht Promenade, August 1998. Barry Lipman, Brookfield, CT. Water calm and flat, little to no current, low 80's, no exposure suit needed; dives over an hour. Total diving freedom, but bring a shovel if you want to go below eighty feet. My second crewed yacht charter in the BVI. The coral, unlike nearby St. John, was thriving! Healthy reefs abound, many with arches, tunnels, caves and caverns, crevices, overhangs, and small (to seventy feet or so) walls. Could spend a week diving the Wreck of the Rhone-magnificent during day and one of best night dives anywhere-covered with orange cup corals, red, purple and yellow sponges, encrusting tunicates, loads of shrimp, crabs, and lobsters, many species of sleeping fishes. I could empty two or three cameras on every dive. Most diving off the yacht, with some from large dinghy. While they usually sell the whole boat to one party, they occasionally sell the cabins individually for dive trips. Four dives per day are possible, five are unlikely.
