Comments Both Atlantis resorts were top notch. The food was excellent, the resort staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. The dive operations were also top notch and safety oriented. The Atlantis resort in Puerto Galera was fine but the overall vibe of Puerto Galera had much more of a party atmosphere, while the resort in Dumaguete had a quiet elegance to it and definitely more remote.

Overall the diving was quite good (Puerto Galera slightly better), especially if you are a photographer, which I am not. The majority of the diving was 'muck' diving. We did enjoy some good coral dives on Verde Island and Apo Island. The rest was all about small unique creatures. I got genuinely perturbed with the photographers hogging the shots. I wish dive operations would offer no camera dives for us folks who just enjoy the experience of diving and would rather collect the memories in our heads. But I fear that opinion is 'swimming upstream' in today's Go Pro world. The dive operations in both resorts were well run and safety oriented. I would consider this to be 'valet' type diving. Our gear was set up and schlepped to the small dive boats and then schlepped back after the day of diving by staff.

The travel portions all went according to plan. We were met by resort staff and guided through the most challenging portions of our arrival and in country travel. That said, it is a long haul to get to the Philippines from the Mid-West. Be prepared to be tired for the first couple of days.

This is definitely a two week trip. One needs to allow for 2 days on either end for travel as well as 4 or 5 days at each resort to genuinely appreciate the experience.

Enforced diving restrictions All the divers in my group were experienced. Depths and minimum psi requirements were repeated for every dive during briefings, but in practice were more guidelines than strictly enforced. Again, this could because of the overall experience level of my group.
