Comments Stayed at the posh Palua Pacific Resort, on the site of WWII seaplane base. Beautiful setting on a protected beach w/terrific snorkeling right in front of the resort. Saw ~6 huge clams (2+') in this small bay on a casual snorkel. We opted to dive w/an offsite operator: "Fish & Fins". Apparently, dive operators do not like to mix anglo divers w/Asian divers on the same boat (that was the actual explanation we got), thus our Chicago dive group dove w/Fish & Fins. Great operator w/15 fast boats that motor to sites that take up to an hour to get to. The sites seen topside on the boat rides through the small islands, make these boat rides some of the best I've been on. Saw reef sharks on every dive and was struck by the vibrant, healthy corals & abundant marine life. In addition to sharks, saw as many as 20 turtles on a single dive & saw ~6 individual mantas at the "German Channel" cleaning station. The single best dive of my life however, was "Blue Holes" a stunning reef formation that filters ambient light through a cavern formation at ~80' out to the deep blue. Dove several WWII wrecks & the Jake Seaplane. Large tuna & Napoleon wrasse seen on every "reef-hook", fast current dive. Saw several huge clams, spotted eagle rays & sharks, sharks, sharks. Great operator, great resort--a fantastic trip. The best I've ever had.
