Comments We did five days of diving off of Isla Tortuga in the Gulf of California (between Sta. Rosalia and Guaymas/San Carlos) on a private liveaboard. Late August water temperatures were averaging 78-80, with dips to 75 at 130 ft. South point of the island was the best diving. Surface current was present in some dives, but not others; below was mostly calm during the day. Abundant sea life, with turtles, gafftopsail pompano, king and Cortez angels, giant damselfish spawning/defending nests, and other common Sea of Cortez sea life. Occasional sea lion, no sharks. Plentiful dolphins on the crossing.

A nice alternative if you can get there (55 miles from San Carlos, 20 miles from Sta. Rosalia) and worth the trip.

Dive own profile yes
Enforced diving restrictions No restrictions, but most diving will be in top 130 feet. A lot of great stuff to see in the 30-50 ft. range, no real reason to go much deeper unless you want to see forests of yellow polyp black coral.
