Hotel Cantamar in
Mexico (Western)/La Paz

Dive Conditions

Max time 50 min.  Max depth 80 ft on a few dives  

[None]Anything could be dipped in the "dedicated" tub on the
boat.  Only dry, flat spots were in the dimly lit cabin.  

Overall Rating

     Simple but clean rooms with good air conditioning.  Buffet-style meals
usually served cold with mediocre food.  Divers had to rinse and stow their
gear daily and load it onto the boat each morning.  All dive sites reached
by long boat rides.  Poor pre-briefings.  Decent lunches served on the
boats with bottled water and sodas available between dives.  Some sites
with miserable visabilty and all are rocky.  Reef fish sometimes plentiful
and often absent.  Whale shark encounter was the highlight.  Sea lions
often present but hostile and wary of divers.  One site had a ripping
current divers were not warned of.  Departure from the La Paz airport was
delayed enough so my groups' connection at LAX was   missed.
     Overall, not yet ready for prime time.
