Comments We stayed at 4 locations during our Bali/ Lombok vacation. All had wonderful diving, but Nusa Penida is the best. The coral and other growth is as healthy and colorful as any we have seen, and the diversity and numbers of reef fish is spectacular. We saw manta rays at manta point and manta bay, with 2-3 meter wing spans. Snappers, groupers, giant and blue trevally, Several species of sweetlips, and large angel and butterfly fish.
They warn you about the currents. Some dives were just an easy drift. On one occassion we were swimming as hard as we could from one coral deflector to the next. The divemaster, Harley, kept his cool and there wasn't any mishap. The divemasters all send up an inflated beacon during the decompression stop and ascent to surface.
We chose Legend Diving only because the shop is located 150 meters from the hotel where we stayed on Nusa Lembongan. We were very happy overall with the staff and service. The boat ride to Manta point can take over a half hour in very choppy seas, but I didn't feel unsafe, and the comfort was adequate. The boat was maxed out with 10 divers the entire week we were at Nusa Lembongan.
The Manta Point dive site had 10-15 boats every day, and was a bit crowded underwater as well, with knuckleheads crowding around the cleaning stations and chasing after the rays when they came swooping by. Other sites with strong currents were not crowded, but the easier places with snorkelling like Crystal Bay and Mangroves had boats just packed in. It is amazing that the dive quality remains so outstanding. The snorkelling is also some of the finest I have experienced in 50 years.
