Comments Taman Sari: A lovely property with several classes of accomodations. We stayed in Bird, a separate building with a king size bed and attached outside bathroom. Lots of very hot water in the outside shower, lights in room ok [we used Kindles]- not sure if would be as easy for books. Some AC problems but the staff worked on it every day we had issues and got it fixed. Mosquito coils in bathroom and on porch, no netting on bed but well screened room. Towels changed daily. Room had safe which we inadvertently left open- no issues. In fact, sent clothing to be washed with money in pockets, $ was returned with apologies! Breakfast included was very filling, Indonesian or Western. Dogs and cats on property but not intrusive. Gardens spectacular, and beach was cleaned daily [as opposed to the adjacent properties where garbage was present on the beach]. On site restaurant really good and inexpensive, but up the lighted street are two warungs with excellent food. We also walked a bit farther for pizza [quite good] and Bali Re restaurant [about a km away, great babi guling].

Bali Dive Academy: On site at Taman Sari, Dray and Karin are great dive hosts. Nitrox 31-32%, full fills. Had same divemaster for whole trip, Ayu, who was great. Went to Menjangen twice- 15 minute drive to harbor then ~30 minute boat ride to the island. Normally they leave from the beach but their boat was under repair. Menjangen- great walls, would also be spectacular for snorkeling nearer to shore, and island/temples very picturesque. Biowreck/biorock sites interesting with electrified metal framework and coral growth. We could have gone to Secret Beach or Puri Jati [muck dives, about a 30 minute drive away] but Dray commented that they had been degraded a bit with some trawling. We dove instead at Jetty, about 5 minutes away, and saw cuttlefish, pipefish, Bangai cardinalfish, mantis and other shrimps, unusual anenomes, and a cool dragonet. BDA provided our driver to/from Denpassar to Permuteran who was very helpful in purchasing a Telkomsel sim card for our iPhone and with showing us local culture on the way. The drive is quite spectacular.
