Comments This was our third trip to Utila, staying at the Utila Lodge Resort. The lodge, attention to detail by the owners and staff is impeccable. Truely a place to get away. Screened in porches with hammocks in all rooms (8 rooms). Built over the water and we had constant breeze so no problem with no-seums or other bugs. Food was great. Willie, boat captain was great as always. Dive Master takes care of all gear for the week after initial set up. The previous two years, (both trips taken in May) we had the priviledge of snorkeling with whale sharks. This year, the water was too choppy to find them. Although the coral was in great shape, I found fewer fish this year. Some of the islander's make their living fishing, and it shows. They've fished out all the sharks. Saw many queen angels though, and some of all the usual Caribbean fish...just fewer of them. Plentiful macro stuff. Vis was always good. All of the dive operations on the island are trying to help the islanders understand that overfishing will hurt their economy, but meanwhile, the fishing continues. For the price of an all-inclusive, including 17 dives, it's a great deal. They have Nitrox and you can dive all 17 dives for flat rate of $100. I would probably go back, but I'll skip a few years.
