Comments Let me start by saying that this was one of my favorite trips! The first time I took a giant stride into the Bligh waters I was amazed at the scenery that spread out before me! Awesome viz, lots and lots of colorful fish and a gorgeous reef! My favorite dive out in the Vatu-I-Ra passage was Mellow Yellow! The 2 boats were large and did a great job of accommodating the many divers that were at Wananavu. The crew was excellent and a lot of fun! Captain Bob was one of the BEST captains and all of the crew on both of their boats took excellent care of you! The only problem we encountered was that we wanted to go out to the Bligh waters the first day , but were told we had to do a check out dive the first day inside. Both of these dives were good but the viz (that day only ) was not as great as in the Vatu-I-Ra passage but we still saw a lot of stuff. As the week went on others were not subjected to the check out dive routine but immediately went out to the passage??? I think this was because of the large number of divers going out and the dive operation (Ka Viti)being closed at Wananavu. After the first day, things were more organized and we went out to the passage most of the days that we were there. The trips all went well and everyone was happy! I have great faith that it will get even better once their facility is finished that they are building right on Wananavu's property. It was cold out there with my computer registering 72 degrees on some dives! I wore a 5ml with a 3/5 vest!
The last day we stayed inside and did one of our best dives called
Breathtaker on which we saw everything from huge grouper and grey reef sharks to 3 types of hawk fish!( and don't forget that colorful reef and a variety of beautiful fish!!!) We did some shore dives as well. The viz went from 3 feet on some days to 25 feet on others. Although the viz was not great we did see a variety of nudis, juv.sweet lips, pipe fish, clams etc. We ended up shore diving most days and the crew from RA divers was great about leaving our tanks for us on the dock. I would say our diving experience overall was EXCELLENT!!!
Now to the resort! I LOVED THIS PLACE and we will go back there FOR SURE! The managers Ben and Rachel were excellent and attended to any problems immediately! The staff was amazing from the front desk with people such as Meli ,the wait staff ( Ma, etc.), the guys who cooked our food one night in the pit, security, housekeeping to
the crew who raked the beach each and every day!( It was so clean and pretty..) They were so friendly and they knew your names almost right off the bat! We stayed in a beach front bungalow ( our little slice of Heaven). We knew it was time to get up when our curtains turned pink and orange from the amazing sunrises that we could enjoy from our king sized bed! Our bure was huge and lovely! The bathroom was great with a nice hot shower that looked into a garden! WE LOVED OUR ROOM and spent a lot of time after diving out on our comfy chairs on the beach! SO RELAXING! Part of our package was a romantic dinner on our bure patio and this was delightful!!! Loved it! We also had massages that I would tell you to NOT MISS when you go there!FABULOUS! A plethora of services at the spa are available!!! Carve out some time for these when you are there!( I had 2 wonderful massages!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)
The singers were great at lunch and dinner, the food was FANTASTIC (the best was mongolian night!!!!) . Breakfast ,lunch and dinner were all wonderful. I did not have a meal that I did not like!
I would get the meal plan for sure! They also host beach side talks with Evoluni who is a wealth of knowledge about the area and the RA people! I hope I am not leaving anything out and I can not say enough about how WONDERFUL our whole experience was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was, in a nutshell, WANANAVU!!!!!!!( that means wonderful in Fijian)
