I've been diving Playa del Coco three times in the last 5 years, all with Rich Coast Divers. They have changed owners, and although the new owners are helpful, they are not interested in taking seasoned divers to the two best areas, Catalina and especially Bat Islands. They want to take people into the local bay, where the vis is 15 feet and you might see a few eels and the local frog fish. I did get to Cat Island one time, and we did see a Devil Ray and a Manta, always a treat, a few eels, and a small 4 foot Leatherback Turtle. Very good dive in cool 72 degree water. Then the 20-something DMs decided that they would not take us for a second dive on Cat, and took us on a pathetic reef dive where we saw a couple eels; irritating, when we paid for 2 dives at Cat. Moreover, 2 years ago at Cat there were 6 whitetips on these dives, now none--finning off the coast in the country that prides itself for "eco-tourism." Go south to Drakes Bay and dive Isla de Cano, which now is much better. [None] |
