A disappointing overall review of Bonaire. One of my group had his lap top computer and the power supply stolen from his locked room. Nothing else, watch, camera, etc. was taken. Obviously an inside job that the staff was totally unable to understand, repeatedly saying that never happened in Bonaire even though they had numerous security guards, one armed, roaming the grounds. The diving was again quite disappointing. Beautiful reefs devoid of all but small reef fishes. An occasional eel, a couple of frog fish and several sea horses, but nothing of any size. One of the group commented that he had never before seen a reef with so many vegetarian fish on it, meaning anything that could be caught by a fisherman had already been so. All parrots, small damsels, chromis, and other very small fish. Broken fishing line was obvious draped over the reef on every dive we made. The dive sites are supposedly a protected park area, but the native population, all fourteen thousand of them, are allowed to fish there. If the powers that be don't intervine soon there won't be any thing left to see except a bunch of very small reef fish. |
