Comments It may be a minority opinion, but apparently Bonaire is a secret and I've yet to be let in on it. Topside, if your taste in landscape runs to mudflats and construction rubble, Bonaire is for you. Underneath...I have to say that in 15 years of diving I've never before actually been bored on our dives. Reefs are either bleached or shades of brown with little color and appear overfished, and shore entries tend to be difficult. Visibility was poor, although I'm told it's usually better. Theft remains a problem, and a large sign in our rental truck advised us not to roll up the windows or lock the doors and not to leave anything valuable in sight. It appears that the local authorities are fine with that situation as long as the divers keep coming, and it won't change as long as divers are willing to tolerate it. I feel that it's overrated - perhaps coasting on past reputation - and overpriced, and overall I can't imagine returning to Bonaire.
