Good for beginners but currents and wind-driven surge made shore entry
and exit an unexpected challenge even for the physically fit. Boat dives
included in the week package helped in this respect.
A few large reef fish at the dive sites are in the habit of accompanying
divers, presumably to grab fish flushed by humans, especially at night.
Aside from these, few sea creatures were seen that were large enough to
look good on a dinner plate. Locals fishing from small boats off the reefs
confirmed the reason for that.
Turtle slide show was superb. Friends left items in locked vehicle and
had them stolen, explaining broken glass on the ground at every dive site
parking lot. Excellent basic vehicle rental included in the package.
Birding not bad but desert habitat impacted by feral goats grazing in many
places. Signs of hurricaine damage still quite visible and NE dive sites
not recommended because of damage. E side of the island not diveable in
Feb. Zeezicht was the best restaurant we found. Supermarket well-equipped
but few or now small quantities--we wished we had brought small amounts of
items one cannot finish in 1 week such as detergent and spices.
Beginners found the night dive at Town Pier claustrophobic but colors of
sponges etc. wonderful.
Buddy's staff very helpful but did not know how to say "I don't
know" when asked a tough question.
