Comments After diving for 15 years, we have found Bonaire to be our favorite dive destination. We "take it easier" than we did in the beginning, and our dives average 60-90 minutes. The sea life is amazing and photo ops are easy to come by due to the lack of strong currents and abundance of fish & critters. We stayed 3-1/2 weeks this time and did all shore diving. Several reefs were visited more than once including Oil Slick, Bari, Yellow Submarine, & Something Special. Another favorite, though not the easiest to access, was Taylor Maid. This one may not be marked well nor noted in all the reef guides. It's on the northern end of the island. We were told you should watch the wind charts to find a day when it's calm enough to enter through the hard corals. Be sure to bring all of your gear, as it's a long way back to the resorts if you forget something - like a wetsuit? I got pretty scraped up during my entry, but had no difficulty on exit.

Bonaire is getting busy with cruise ships, lots of condo construction, and lots of divers - hopefully, it won't turn into another 10-ship a day island!

Restaurants are great - Papaya Moon, Casablanca, Salsa, are a few of our favorites. Reservations are helpful. Don't miss the Apple Pie at Papaya Moon!!!

Grocery stores are getting better and seem to be stocked more often than in past years. This is the best improvement we have noticed.

Be sure to bring any meds you may need - we both had bad colds and couldn't find Sudafed anywhere. Sudafed PE is available, but it's not cheap. 4 tablets cost us $5.00 U.S.

The most important point and most miserable time of our vacation was when my husband got terribly dehydrated...he missed 2 days of diving. Drink water, drink water, drink water! Safe diving!

UW Photo Comments Be sure to adjust your camera's i.s.o. to get the correct light saturation - the bright ocean may require your camera to be set at a darker setting to compensate for this.
