The reefs off Ambergris Caye are in terrible shape; very little color, a lot of debris (probably left over from the last hurricane), LOTS of dead coral and sponges. The only place I've seen less fish life is in our local sand pit! We were VERY disappointed in the diving, and don't understand why we hadn't read anything about the health (or lack thereof) of this highly touted diving destination. The Sun Breeze Hotel is fine, and the service and staff are top notch. The local people are very friendly and local food good as well as inexpensive. We loved the island and the atmosphere, but we're serious divers and will not return. |
