Fresh water bucket was the only facility on the boat. As we used small digital cameras, that was enough for us. |

When we visited there, the sea was very calm. It was difficult to believe
that we were in the middle of the bad hurricane season. But people told me
that a week before they suffered from strong winds and high waves caused by
Ivan and had to cancel the diving for three days. There were only four
guests in the resort when we were there so everybody got full attention of
the staff at everything, including the diving. Lighthouse Reef Resort was
one of the best serviced, most relaxing and most scenic resorts I have ever
stayed. Diving-wise, I found the Long Caye the best. It's worth while going
to the Halfmoon Caye because of the bird sanctuary, but the walls around
the island were less interesting. One has to dive the Blue Hole just to say
"I was there!" Otherwise it's a waste of time to dive the Hole.
The most interesting dive was the night dive just 10 minutes' boat ride
from the resort. We saw a ray, octopus, crabs and lobsters, peppered moray,
etc. In general, no big stuff, no "surprises" - so the diving was
in a way a bit disappointing. No shore dives.
One of the resort staff told us that the resort would be closed for one
and a half to two years starting next August for the complete rebuilding.
He said the plan was to make it a big five-star resort to receive wider
category of guests - not only the divers.
