 Turkey

Sea Star Diving School, Marmaris, Turkey, July 1999, Susan Reiter, East Haddam, CT. Turkey was not our dive destination, though there are supposed to be sunken cities and underwater Greek and Roman ruins, these are not accessible to the diving public. Lots of rock formations, grass beds, sea anemones, small tropicals, nothing larger than a frying pan. Little is protected; often saw divers with spear guns. One Turkish member of our party chopped up an anemone with his knife so his girlfriend could watch the fish feed. Worth a day side trip, if only for the experience of diving the Mediterranean. We compared dive operators and bargained for the best price. Sea Star Diving School's well-equipped boat left at 10:00 a.m. for the first dive and served a leisurely hot lunch during a surface break of 2 hours before the second dive. Returned at 5:00 pm. Two dives, hot lunch and drinks, boat and all equipment rental: $25/person!
