This was a fairly pricey ($139/person) shore excursion purchased from the
ship. For this we were provided transportation to/from the dive boat and a
2-tank dive. The dive boat was large and comfortable for the 12 divers
aboard. Many of the divers seemed relatively inexperienced. Our
destination was the wreck of the Rhone. We were the first dive boat of the
day to arrive at the wreck. There was a good assortment of rental gear
which was in good condition and included in the excursion price. We
received a thorough dive briefing including some history of the wreck. We
were divided into 2 groups of 6 divers with no consideration of experience.
Each group had a divemaster assigned. The first dive was to the bow
section in about 75 feet and lasted about 30 minutes. After an hour
surface interval the second dive was to the stern in about 60 feet for 45
minutes. The divemasters were competent but provided little other than
basic guide service and made little attempt to point out interesting
sealife. But they were very safety conscious. This was a moderately
interesting dive but not a great dive value.
