Did actually not get to do this dive, so this report to serve as a word of advise. Island Venture run a nice little 6 pack boat from Key Largo, FL. We dove with them back in 2001 and was very happy with boat, captain, operation and dive sites. My wife had travelled to South Florida for work and I had decided to join her for a long weekend and decided to finally get to dive the Spiegel Grove. Needless to say that I booked with Island Venture again, based on satisfaction with last trip. Booked my dive trip more than a week before and got confirmation, with subject that dive may be cancelled if not enough divers due to slow season. In case of cancellation, Island Venture would rebook me to another operation, which was all fine with me. 3 days before the dive, I wrote another email to reconfirm and advised that any change of plans from their side, they should call my cell phone. On the day of the dive, I called Island Venture in the morning to confirm everything was set for the afternoon dive. To my great surprise, I learnt that they had changed the afternoon dive to a morning dive!!!! They offered to find another boat that was going out to the Spiegel Grove this afternoon, but was unable to find one. Obviously quite disapointed, I asked why they have not called my cell to advise of the change in their plans, as instructed in my email. Captain (Brian Berry, owner) advised 'that he may not have read his email for a couple of days....'. I am still confident that Island Venture run a dive operation as good as they did back in 2001. However, from my experiance, it is quite obvious that they do not take communication with their clients before the trip to seriously. My advise to fellow divers must be that if you book with Island Venture, call them well in advance (and preferable several times) before you go out, in order to stay updated and can make last minute changes, if Island Venture change their plans and fail to inform their clients. |
