Boat had a small table but was adequate for the number of photographers that needed it. Dedicated rinse bucket on board. Crew was helpful in handling gear while entering and exiting the water. |

July and August have been good months for me for water conditions. The seas were flat to 1 ft. Horizon was a great operator. Very friendly staff. Boat crew was great gave good safety and dive briefings. Boat rides were comfortable and short on their 50 ft. Corinthian Catamaran (the Cheeca View)with itd dual 225 hp mercs. The ride was very stable and the boat offered plenty of cover. One geat feature is the boat's three water entry point's; off the bow and off each side. Dive sites were on the shallow side but most of them were very nice, lots of small fish, a few with multiple nurse sharks and one (French Reef - The Big Scare) with a huge bait ball of minnows and the largest eagle ray I've ever seen (about a 5 ft. wingspan!) Nitrox was available (30%) for a nominal up charge. Tank fills weren't bad. I averaged averaged 2977 psi over 12 dives. Capri Suns were available after all dives. I stayed at the Ramada Inn which was a bargain and clean but pretty basic. The location of Horizon to the Ramada was stellar, as in right next door, but next time I'd stay at the Holiday Inn. A little more money but a much nicer place. There is NO WIFI at the Ramada and no business center to gain internet access. They send you to the Holiday Inn! The Ramada offers a free continental breakfast but there is no restaurant on the premises, but there are great restaurants nearby. My all time favorite on Key Largo is Buzzards Roost. Great food, nice bar, indoor and outdoor seating (on the water) and the coconut cake with pineapple rum sauce is to die for (when they have it). It's a little out of the way, on the ocean side at the turn off to the causeway back to the mainland, but well worth the trip. |
