Comments We chose Amoray based on the good review in the Chapbook, and on the
fact that they had a trip scheduled for the Spiegel Grove on Friday.

My problems with them started when they informed us that, if we did
not have any dives within the last year, then we needed a guide. I
had many dives within the last year, but my partner (my son) did not.
However, he had about 100 dives, some to 120ft, so he is not a beginner. We tried to argue with them, that my partner was not a
beginner, but they were firm on this. So we agreed to the guide. But
then they said that I could not dive with them, that I also needed a
guide. Well, this discussion took place on Tuesday, the day before
the dive, so we agreed to this. They did agree then that we did not
need a guide for the Spiegel Grove.

The Wednesday dive was pleasant enough, but the maximum depth was
28ft. In my view, there was no need for a guide. We dove with them
again on Thursday (max dept was again about 30ft), and were looking
forward to the Friday dive on the Spiegel Grove when they told us that
we also needed a guide for this dive because my partner did not have 4
dives (withing the last year) to 70ft or more. We again tried to
argue, but to no avail.

The bottom line is that if you want to dive with them, be aware that
they have a lot of rules, and that these rules may not be made clear
until the last minute. The web site clearly says that for the Spiegel
Grove you need advanced certification (or logged experience), dive
computers, and wreck medallions. They never mentioned "wreck
medallions" so we had all the requirements. Oh yes, they never checked
our logs. They do mention that "If your last dive was more than one
year ago, you must hire a guide (one location, one diver = $40)".

In spite of the above problems, the staff was very pleasant. I felt
that they were embarrassed by these regulations, but that they had to
follow the rules. In all, these regulations added $140 to the cost of
the dives.
