Comments Amy Slate's is a no-frills dive resort. The rooms are clean and convenient to the dive boat. The dive boat captain is GREAT - Capt Mike. He is personable but follows the rules and is very sensitive to the environmental concerns on the Florida reef. We were on the boat with the Coral Reef Restoration folks for two of our trips and that was very interesting. Two dives were at their nursery while they harvested the coral - as they cleaned and harvested, many fish came around to eat what was floating off. Two more dives were on the reef (French) to plant the coral "babies." I'm glad we had the opportunity to watch the process and also to talk to the folks involved with it - apparently, Amy Slate is a big supporter of the effort. This was my first dive trip to the Florida Keys and I'd heard lots of different things from people - some good, some not so much, some terrible - about diving in the Keys. I was pleasantly surprised. I am a novice, and older, and it was a good experience. We had to do 4 dives on the one day because the wind had picked up and a storm system was moving in and we were afraid we wouldn't be able to get out the next day (we didn't) and that was the only drawback - curses on Mother Nature! I am looking forward to another trip to the Keys - and will have no hesitation in using Amy Slate's and Capt Mike of the Amoray again.
