UW Photo Comments This is my 5th trip on this boat (4th on the St. Maarten to St. Kitts itinerary). Despite full boat (17 passengers), crew managed the dive deck and diving with efficiency, safety, great attitude. Food was fantastic! Cook Jane was leaving after this cruise, but sous-chef Cathy and veteran Tuna will rotate cook duties in the future. Both are divers. New (to me) Captain Nestor led some dives, and is not just knowledgeable about underwater critters, but an expert lionfish hunter as well, DMs Willie & Brent (also Tuna) knew where to look for the unique stuff. Engineer Charlie kept everything running. I filed this under St. Kitts, though half the diving is off Saba, because they've added some new dive sites this summer at the far south of St. Kitts and off Nevis. The best diving is at these new sites and the ones on the north end of the Caribbean coast, with the exception of the wrecks near Frigate Bay. You won't go to these sites (except the wrecks) from shore-based dive operations. Wind kicked up a bit, reducing visibility on some dives (storm passed to the north a few weeks before and the beginning of another trop storm came in late in the week). Saba diving was great, as usual, but sites were chosen on a day-to-day basis to get best vizibility (almost didn't make the Pinnacle because you couldn't see it from the reef and had to try to find it based on compass heading from mooring). This was my "free" trip after 5 paid trips, so it wouldn't have taken much to make me happy. DMs gave divers option of following them on a tour, or going in buddy teams, so we didn't have a "herd" of divers and didn't feel crowded. Oh, yea, the food was great. Homemade cookies, banana bread, desserts from STRATCH (no brownie mix brownies on this boat). Welcome dinner Sat. was steaks. Also had a fresh fish night (local fisherman Larry brings his catch of the day and grills it onboard). Plenty of tasty vegetable dishes, so any vegans will feel well-fed. Lots of avocados from DM Brent's garden. Soda, beer, wine and premium liquor included.

My UWP comments should have been in overall comments.

Hey Lynda, we need to join a club or something of 'old timers' on Caribbean Explorer vessels! Sounds as if you got in some good diving off Nevis last year, as did I. But not this August trip for me. Bummer. As you say, off-the-beaten path. Hope to meet you aboard someday. Did you dive the Explorer Venture vessel when in the Maldives? If so, what did you think? Thanks for the review. jdivescoz@yahoo.com
