I wish my original report had been published a few years ago! If you go to Puerto Rico, you HAVE to go to the west coast. www.oceans-unlimited.com I have been out with Oceans Unlimited numerous times, and Jim and Lisa some of the friendliest people you ever want to meet. They make you wish you could have people like them on all of your dive trips. Their 47 ft boat is great for offshore, has a spacious deck with lots of seats, space for gear and a cooler. It also has a place to lay on top of the big enclosed cabin to get some sun. The cabin has seats and tables, with plenty of room for lunch. (They serve the best lunches of any operator short of a live aboard.) They offer any type of instruction/sevices you can think of, including NITROX. The diving in western Puerto Rico is fabulous. This is the best visibility I have been in, with excellent coral. Sharks, eels, sting and eagle rays, plenty of turtles, and even the occasional manta ray have been seen and photographed on their trips. They even showed pictures of their humpback encounters earlier in the year! www.oceans-unlimited.com Their website has a lot of information about the area and accomodations. For Puerto Rico, there are a lot of reviews for Parguera divers. While they are a good operation, the dives and visibility aren't as good as the west coast, and the boat is smaller. What ever you do, avoid Taino Divers. They are sloppy don't care about/damage the reefs, the boat is small and crowded, and some of their "divemasters" are just certified divers that go along as guides. Some of them even brag about they "just love to dive, so I only work for beer." |
