Mauritius is a wonderful and interesting vacation spot in the Indian Ocean, sorrounded by great beaches and healthy beautiful coral reef all around the island. I dove with Mascareignes Plongee in Grand Baie with Jean Lincoln, the owner of the operation, CMAS reef activist well known all over Mauritus. He grew up there and knows every possible thing about every reef around Grand Baie and Coin de Mire. Every dive was very good, many huge green turtles, many big morey eels, and beautiful healthy hard coral, and soft coral reefs. Fish life was similar to that of Seychelles, Tnazania, and Zanzibar, and the only thing which was missing was the lack of large pelagics, perticularily sharks, which used to be present around Flat Island. Every dive was interesting and we could see something great on all of them, Jean Lincoln would never dissapoint, and you'll never have more than 4 people on his small boat, which was a blessing. I stayed in Beach Villas with their own small nice beach overlooking Grand Baie and famous Coin de Mire Rock. Food in local restaurants was great and inexpensive. Rent a car if you'd like to see everything that is to see in Mauritius, particularily Le Morne. |
