Did this dive while visiting Bahrain on business. They meet you at a resort and bring all their gear there. Very friendly aussies and brits. The Captain of the dive boat is worth the price of admission - very knowledgable about Bahrain and the middle east in general. Really knows his diving. Rest of the staff are helpful and fun. I had my own BCD, but used their wetsuit as the water was still a little cold. Their gear looked old, especially the wet suits, but was servicable. There were six of us on a boat that could hold 12 divers comfortably. Got to the site fast. No head on board, but a cooler for all our stuff. Have to bring all your own food and water - we stopped at a supermarket on the way and stocked up. First dive was a tugboat wreck in about 30 feet of water. Not much to write home about. Decent amount of fish inside the wreck - barren outside. The Captain explained that most reefs have been destroyed with just a few left. Next dive was also shallow - about 30 feet, but better. It was one of the few reefs still around and had a decent amount of sea life, including a turtle which has lived there forever. Mostly hard coral, lots of little creatures. The reef is in the shadow of several anchored tankers - a little different. Next time I go I will try the pearl diving, which is their specialty. Sounds like a good training program that culminates in a dive for natural pearls. They seem to really know their stuff. Overall a fun couple of dives with great people. Experts may be a bit disppointed in the venues. Price was right, 70 dollars for two dives. |
