I did not expect Pelagics and except for some Dog Tooth Tuna and Barracuda, we did not get any. Some very good Mandarin Fish sightings on a 2 day muck diving area. Most of the trip was drift dives on assorted walls, which appeared to healthy and very beautiful. Te ship, M/V Pelagic, was on it's fifth cruise in the area and needs a bit more dive site info. The ship itself, contray to some bad press on Scubaboard, was fantastic. It was large, clean, well run, with excellant galley and a great freindly staff. The only complaint I had was an overly enthusiastic photographer who had 2 large cameras, one of which was free hanging, with strobes that acted as a wrecking ball on the coral. He also constantly used the soft and hard coral to steady himself for THE SHOT. At one point wanting to move a beautiful black frog so he could have a better shot. Luckily, he was stopped by a dive master. He was warned not to continue, but to no avail. Since this was his third trip to the Wakatobi area, I realise there was a cash flow issue, but gimme a break. |
