Steve at Wanna Dive (steve@wannadivekona.com) had received good reviews in
the Chapbook. They were right. His boat was out of the water with engine
trouble, so he had a friend take us out in his boat from Pirate Charters.
The boat was adequate, but certainly not fancy. The captain, Mike, was
friendly and accomodating. Steve dove every dive with us including the
fabulous Manta Night Dive (we were three women doing a "girl's
trip"). Do not dive Kona without doing a manta night dive!! The rest
of the diving was made interesting because Steve pointed out critters and
fish, writing notes on his underwater slate. He usually takes out small
groups so our threesome worked out just fine for him. He responded quickly
to my emails to make our dive arrangements.
Our final dive day was with Sandwich Isle Divers. They had a boat that was
well set up for divers. There were four other divers on the boat. They
were brand new divers, so the divemaster was shepherding them well. We did
our own thing. My 3mm wetsuit could have been a little heavier, as I was
cold a lot of the time.
Our condo rental through Aloha Condos was perfect. It was on the ocean and
equiped with anything we could possibly need. The pictures shown of it on
their website were very helpful. The reservation process was simple on
line, with plenty of notice before any charges were made.
