This was a day boat, no expectations. They just have a rinse bucket,
period. Same as most dayboats.

Pacific Rim Divers runs a fun and enjoyable day diving operation at the
local sites around Kona. They enjoy the #1 recommendation of a very popular
Hawaii tourist guidebook called "Big Island Revealed", hence my
booking with them. I found them very competent, and they were happy to take
us to some quite unique sites, at least as far as I was concerned. The most
exciting part of the diving was exploring the various really beautiful
underwater lava formations around Kona, with tubes, overhangs, arches, and
caves with openings in their roofs. What I appreciate about a dive site is
the overall apparent health of the environment, and Kona overall seems
healthy still as far as the corals are concerned, although they are not as
colorful as those found in more remote pacific destinations, they are still
beautiful and not to be taken for granted. Saw swimming turtles, swimming
dolphins, some interesting nudibranchs, slipper lobsters, and one really
big whitetip sleeping in a cave, along with the usual hawaiian tropicals.
My only complaint is the fact that Hawaii is alowing aquarium fish
collectors to decimate the small fish population there. It was strange to
be diving and see the aquarium collectors nearby. Obviously this needs to
be fought at some level to preseve the diving quality and reef health.
Overall though, I really had fun and can't wait to go back. Hawaiian diving
is unique, very beautiful, relaxing, and I feel underappreciated.
