The good: Dive with Cristina is the best operation on Cozumel. It is run
by Cristina Roman and her companion Luis. Luis has been an instructor on
Cozumel for 30 years and Cristina about the same. Until last year they
worked either as private instructors/divemasters or for the existing
operations in Cozumel. Last year they purchased their own dive boat, Nena,
and now offer a diving experience unparalleled in Cozumel. They are the
best for four reasons: they actually care about their divers, they are
passionate about protecting the reefs, they are extremely knowledgeable
about the aquatic life, and they are extraordinary instructors eager to
improve the quality of their newer divers' diving. They both speak fluent
English (Cristina has a degree in architecture from a U.S. university). If
you want it, you will be showered with individual attention and tips to
improve your diving. After two trips to Cozumel with Cristina and Luis, my
diving has improved exponentially, both from specific techniques for
buoyancy control and overall confidence.
My husband and I have been fortunate to have their boat to ourselves on two
occasions. While this experience will become increasingly rare, I'm sure,
as word gets out about the quality diving experience offered by "Dive
with Cristina," their operation is small enough that they will always
avoid the cattle-car experience offered by other operators in Cozumel. I
cannot say enough about Cristina and Luis. Where else in Cozumel can you
have a private boat, enjoy sea kayaking between dives, and learn countless
small details about the area while traveling to specific reefs. The
