Due to constant current we followed D/master but he let us be as
independent as we could/wanted to considering Cozumel is always a drift
dive.

None really. There was a fresh water bucket dedicated for cameras on the
boat. This did not distract from the diving experience at all though.

The Allegro was WONDERFUL. The rooms have been updated since the hurricane
and were very comfortable. The staff did not hesitate to upgrade us to a
room closer to the beach and dive shop. We even did a late check out at no
additional cost. The food was basic but reliable. Never got sick, even ate
salad, they use filtered water for ice and serve bottled water in the
restuarant and provide bottled water in the rooms - we use it to brush our
teeth too. They have reconfigured the pool side lunch set up so you order
from a menu - a great improvement and the lunch was better than the main
buffet. Highly recommend taking thermo cups which the waiter staff did not
hesitate to fill. The beach service was also reliable -hardly had to get
up from the lounge chair if I didn't want to. Dive Palancar is a WONDERFUL
outfit. We paid one of the staff $20 for the week to hump our gear, it was
rinsed at the end of our dive day and after the last dive is was throughly
washed and hung to dry before having to pack it. We, or course, kept our
regulators with us though. All the dive masters are great but we preferred
Jorge - he's been there a long time. Alfredo is our second choice. It's
also great because the reef is 5-10 minutes away and there are 4 departure
time. The night dive was great. They have large comfortable boats and they
limit to 8 divers but we usually only had 6. If you are diving a lot buy a
package and they will bargain with you and after a couple of dives they
tend to put more experienced divers together - this may have something to
do with sticking with the same D/Master. Be sure and tip the D/Master who
shares the tip with the boat captain - can't believe how many divers never
tipped - we have learned that tipping does pay off. We went to town once
but really just wanted to dive and relax. You can definitely see the
effects of the hurricane on the reef but the marine life was abundant. Saw
the biggest shark I've ever seen. I wore a light wet suit because I get
cold even in warm water but my husband and most others were comfortable
without. The coral was damaged horribly but is already showing rebirth. The
hurricane was in a way one of the best things to happen to Cozumel in that
it moved the cruise ships further away from the reef. We are going back
this year and probably every year as a quick inexpensive dive trip from the
Dallas/Fort Worth area-- 2-1/2 hours direct flight and we are on the beach!
End of September early October was great - it's the off season and the
resort was only about 1/2 full. Can't wait to return.
