Dive House does escorted dives w/ 2 DMs; the 2 morning dives are a wall dive ~100 ft, and a shallow dive @ ~50'. Depending on DM you can stay down as long as air holds out; almost everybody is using computers now so deco not really a problem. |

We have been to Fiesta Americana (FA) and Dive House (DH) many times because they are always very dependable. FA is about 5 km south of town (about $5 for taxi each way), on the beach, and DH has their facility right there, although their main office is on the square in town. We usually do the 2 morning dives (on Nitrox) and hit the beach in the afternoon. Reefs and fish have made very good progress recovering from the hurricanes that have pounded the area in the last three years, but damage is still clear. Diving is pretty simple drift diving, and really experienced young divers might not enjoy the casual ease of these dives. It has been said that Coz is overdived, and that may be true, but it's still fun. We've been going for 10+ years, as much for the town as for the diving. FA has an all-inclusive plan, but we always eat dinner in Cozumel proper; the costs are slightly greater to eat in town, but not much. There are many excellent restaurants (Wyndham, Onsu, Primavera's, La Mission, La Choza) as well as Carlos & Charlie's and Senor Frog's. Not sure where Margaritaville fits in that scene, but food and drink there were good. There are many local restaurants a few blocks off the water where the prices are a LOT cheaper. If you've never been, be aware that the US divers have essentially imposed a US economy on Cozumel, so don't expect cheap. But the people there are all very friendly and helpful, and that makes up for the prices. We were on our anniversary trip, so we splurged and ate at the top end restaurants. Estimated dinners (food and at least one bottle of wine each night) for two was about $800 total for 8 nights, but some friends were included in that amount to an unknown extent. Hotel (including breakfast, lunch, beach bar, and gratuities) was $1600, and the diving was $1000, including Nitrox on all dives. We arrived on a Thursday about noon and did a shore dive to check wts, etc, and left on Friday a week later. |
