Could not dive on the (normal) south side due to high surf, so we dove on the north side (we were bused there and back each day, a 15 minute ride). This side is normally rough, but the water was calm as glass; even the dive masters commented on how unusual that was. Shore diving from Sunset House and diving on the south side only opened up the day we left. Sunset Divers are always professional and helpful, and we noted that dive masters were still there from our visit two years ago, a rarity in this high-turnover profession. Unfortunately, the reefs even on the north side are not as beautiful as they used to be and we found far fewer fish of any size and almost no large ones. Perhaps this was due to the weather which poured rain nearly all day every day, but didn't affect the diving. I was certified at Sunset House 20 years ago and will always go back for easy warm-water diving and amenities such as the little salt-water bay for buoyancy checks and access to a great shore dive to see the Little Mermaid. |
