Comments This was my third visit in as many years... and my fourth overall. There are plenty of reasons to keep coming back to the Brac: stunning viz, warm water, healthy reefs, outstanding accommodations, great food, valet diving, easy travel connections, and lots of sociable grouper to bring out your inner fish whisperer.

I think I've said it all in previous reviews, but Brac Reef's consistent delivery of good diving and excellent service merits an updated report.

Let's face it -- the Caribbean will never be what it was 30 years ago. But in today's environment, it would be hard to best Brac for overall dive conditions and value -- at least, in this hemisphere. The clarity of the water and the warm temps make Brac an ideal spot for both beginning and experienced divers. The guest rooms (go for the deluxe) are the best I've had on a dive vacation. The photos on the website are accurate, so I won't go into detail here. The dining room consistently puts out a buffet spread to satisfy every appetite, and the service is happy and welcoming. You'll eat more than you should and you won't care.

Boats are roomy and perfectly organized, and you'll never carry a tank. Briefings are helpful and informative, and divemasters remain vigilant at lion fish culling. My only complaint remains the obsession with buddy diving, to the point of paring up total strangers. So if you're a solo traveler, be warned.

The Cayman Islands may be the last great hope for grouper in the Caribbean. To see all those friendly goggle eyes following you around like wet puppies is a treat that will leave you smiling.

The grounds are lovely, with lots of white sand, shaded hammocks, a pool, and an open-air bar. The island is worth exploring by bike (free ones available at the resort) or car. Check out the swimming hole on the other side of the island (by the Keith Tibbets Russian Destroyer dive site).

For the caliber of diving and top-side services, Brac is a bargain, and I give it a strong recommendation for divers of all levels.
