Comments This is my 4th time to Bonaire, but first time at the Belmar apartments. Previously, the only time we've been bothered by bugs was eating dinner at Richards (still good food, but expensive). We had 2 2-bedroom apartments on the first floor and all eight of us got badly bitten, by no-seeums, and we believe by spiders. Bug spray did little to releave the problem. Friends of mine, who arrived at the Belmar the day we left, had a second story apartment and had no problems with bug bites. If it wasn't for the bugs, our accomodations were very nice (AC in bedrooms only). I would recommend that they find a different place for their refigerator, since it pretty much blocked the hallway.

I was disappointed in the diving. Previousily we were there during Spring/Summer seasons, when visibility was in the 100' plus range. In January we experienced the raining season, so seas were up and visibility was down. We saw one turtle off the Belmar, no lobsters or crabs. We finally saw the house octopus out hunting, and we did get see a large Green Moray free swimming in the water column over the top of the reef.

No problems with crime, but then there really weren't many tourists to attract the thieves. Food is still expensive and the diving is easy. I will return, back not in January.
