Lot's of good subjects. Conditions were very good, with excellant viz and nice, warm water. Plenty of light as I was in Oz during summer. The marina in Cairns is incredible. Over 1,000 dive instructors go out each day! |

I was in Cairns for a little over 3 weeks at Pro_dive taking the Instructor Development Course (IDC) - PADI. My instructor, Alex van Welderen, was exceptional. I recommend Alex for anyone interested in pursuing their instructor cert, particularly if interested in diving the Great Barrier Reef. Learned a lot and was very comfortable with the teaching and tests given during the PADI Instructor Exam (IE)--despite the stress! Only down-side of taking this training was that we were too busy to do any overnighter's on the reef. Most of our diving was pool for confined water training and then Frasier Island for final open water training. After passing the exam (whew!) I was able to dive with Tusa on the reef and found their boats to be a lot of fun. After the IE, Alex took us to the Tablelands for altitude lake diving for specialty certs. This was fun, but not really comparable to the reef diving. Overall I think Pro-Dive Cairns is a world class operation and would dive/train with them again. |
