Undercurrent is Behind the Curve: In our email a couple of days ago, we said that traveling to Florida was a high risk for COVID, but that’s no longer true. The CDC says the COVID risk in Florida is moderate and, in fact, better than 45 other states (Hawaii and Puerto Rico are also rated as moderate). So, for a subtropical dive vacation, it’s a pretty safe place. The Keys have wreck diving with goliath groupers and shallow fish-filled reefs. Head north of Miami to, say, Jupiter and board a dive boat for some exceptional drift diving in the Gulf Stream, where you’ll see big fish and get plenty of surprises. To pick the destination and best operators, click on this link, and you’ll go directly to our reader reports to read honest reviews from divers who have been there as recently as this month.

Caveat: But, keep in mind, COVID infections – and therefore risk – can increase quickly, anywhere. Furthermore, the omicron variant may bring further trouble. What we write today may not be true next month or even next week. Do your homework.

And speaking of reader reports, we want yours from any dive trip you have taken this year or last. If you submit it by December 2, your report will appear in the 2022 edition of our Travelin’ Diver’s Chapbooks. All reader reports will be organized by area and published in a handy guide that you can download for easy reference. There is no better source for current and accurate information about the best (and sometimes not so good) diving spots around the world…and Florida too.

Thanks so much for supporting Undercurrent, a nonprofit organization. Subscribers like you keep us alive and permit our publication to be advertising-free. We can’t do it without you.
