Comments Hornby Island is a beautiful location. Isolated, quiet, and somewhat rustic. This is the North West. The food was well prepared, fresh, tasty and plentiful. The boat is beautifully designed and robustly constructed for diving. The diving was good, but not excellent. Could have just been the time of year but we saw no GPO, only one Wolf Eel, and not a lot of other fish. We did encounter beautiful Sea Lions. We did a couple of deep dramatic technical walls that filled the bill nicely for technical diving. Bring your own mix. No helium is available. Nitrox of any % is available. I do believe there are much more shallow dives available but we were dove a mixture of deeps and moderates depths. The Captain/owner is very knowledgeable regarding his boat and currents and is on the money with the pick ups. Currents can be strong. We dove two dives a day. The negative was that the boat is located some distance from the lodge and tanks needed to be wheeled up to the lodge for fills after each dive. Rinse facilities were limited. There was no crew to help with heavy technical gear and even after offering to pay extra for help moving doubles the owners missed an opportunity to make us happy in this respect. Be prepared to carry your gear four times a day. This gets old after a couple of days of deep diving. The sleeping arrangements are dormatory-like with small rooms. Two bathrooms for up to 26 people. We were lucky that we had only four. The owners/family chose to join us in the dining room for each meal. They are very nice folks but we would have preferred less owner participation at meal times. The owners have been responsive to our feedback and may have improved services since we were there in September. A good place to get away from it all and dive or enjoy being very-very cozy with a larger group of good friends.
