California Odyssey, August 1995, Dale Boswell, South Ogden, UT. "Board late Friday evening and travel all night to San Clemente Island. Two dives plus a night dive the first day, Second day 3 dives, then travel back to San Diego Sunday afternoon and evening." Odyssey, August 1995, Dave Garside, Layton, VT. "Crew made the trip one to remember." Pacific Star, September 1995, Paul Vitkus, Reno, NV. "Serves Central CA from Monterey. Needs tuning. Capacity of 30 divers, but more pleasant with 20 divers. Bunks tight but adequate. Food simple, ample. Steel tanks and weight belts provided. A large step dive platform makes return to the boat easy. 45 dives/day, but diving can be slow due to one compressor. Captain, crew and cook are pleasant and helpful. Manage your own profiles/tables. Little protection from the open ocean, so diving may be limited to Monterey Bay. Some kelp canopies are extremely dense - compass navigation skills and vigilant air monitoring are a must. Kelp diving is spectacular." Specter/Anacapa Island, 1995 Mary Wicksten, Bryan, TX. "Anacapa Island, renown for colorful rocky reefs, kelp beds and sea lions. Sea birds abound. Found sheltered diving just before a storm hit; vis 10 feet and water 51 degrees F. Macro photography great - lots of nudibranchs, starfish, brittle stars, small reef fish. Specter makes a quick crossing from Ventura. Bunks below for the tired. Galley crowded, but the barbecued chicken was welcome. Hot tub - what you need after 3 chilly dives." Vision/Truth Aquatics, July 1995, Rondi Campbell, Summerland, CA. "3 day trip from Santa Barbara spent at San Miguel Island. Beautiful pinnacles full of life. Well run operation - great crew - safety oriented. Dive your own profile. Crew took roll call before moving the boat each time. Clean boat, large bunks with reading light and storage space. Plenty of hot water for showers. Snacks between meals." Copyright 1997 by DSDL, Inc., publishers of Undercurrent. All rights reserved.
