Bay Islands Aggressor, July 1995, Gary Dorman, Washington, DC. "Kripto Caper on the west end of Roatan had good fan coral and tube sponges. Vis. 50' with quite a bit of stuff in the water. No notable numbers of fish. Good, not great trip. Sea mount was memorable and just about worth the trip itself. Occasional eagle rays, one nurse shark, not much big stuff. It was macro-land, however. The crew was excellent. Sam's food a high point." Bay Islands Aggressor, October 1995, Roger Roth, Cincinnati, OH. "During Roxanne. Captain Dan got us to protected areas so we wouldn't lose dives. Another live-aboard couldn't get out of harbor for 23 days. Lost one day of diving, but crew hustled up a comfortable bus and took us on an island tour. Diving good. Not many large fish, but reefs were active and colorful. The walls were spectacular. Kiki, the photo pro onboard, took care of all the needs and developing for the other photographers. Food was fabulous; Frank, Simon and Jesse were great dive guides." Wind Dancer, 1995, David Thompson, Radnor, PA. "Lots of fish, few of any size, hard and soft corals beautiful. Wind and swells (hurricanes up north). Dolphin dive at Anthony's the highlight. . . . Crew and accommodations superb. Twice as we moved between sites we enjoyed large pods of dolphins moved with us. Did the island tour (catch up on your sleep instead) and had dinner ashore (a pale comparison to cuisine). Excellent week." Wind Dancer, May 1995, Robert H. Bringas, Gaston, OR. "Poor reef awareness by crew. One diver took his 'lobster getter' pole on every dive, to pry lobsters out of the reef for his wife to photograph. Four novice divers never given any guidance when they returned from dives with sea urchin spines stuck in their wetsuits or coral cuts all over their legs." Wind Dancer, June 1995, Craig Gindraux, Mead, WA. "The old Truk Aggressor. Peter Hughes did a great job remodeling. Extremely comfortable inside and out. Dive operation 5 star. 5 dives per day. Food fabulous as was service. . . . Too nice of a boat to leave in Honduras as the diving is undeserving of a boat and operation as impressive as the Wind Dancer. The Bay Islands have been over fished and the reefs are dying. Few pelagics. Average Caribbean diving and better diving in the Bahamas." Wind Dancer, June 1995, Frank Hall & Carole Ott, Floyds Knobs, IN. "Great trip, excellent boat & crew. Dive your own profiles. Crew took great care to place the anchor in the sand & not on the coral when no buoy was available. Paul's Reef & the Cocos Sea Mount off Cayos Cochinas were our favorites." Wind Dancer, June 1995, George Arnold, Pittsburgh, PA. "Beautiful in all regards. A crew of 8 served 20 passengers. Diving very good to excellent. My children, girl 15 and boy 18, rated it a 5." Wind Dancer, July 1995, David Lund, Minneapolis, MN. "Good boat - former Truk Aggressor I. Comfortable accommodations. Good crew; Dave the Dive Dude & Mark the Food Dude stand-out. Very good food & excellent meal service. Diving comparable to other good Caribbean destinations. Reefs healthier and less beat-up than most, fewer big critters and Pelagics than most. Mostly good weather & calm water. Not a great trip, but a good trip. Up to expectations. Flights on TACA, in and out of Roatan, third-world & unprofessional Re; comfort, safety." Wind Dancer, July 1995, Dennis Hixon, Houston, TX. "Twenty five dives in five & half days. Half Moon Bay, dolphins at AKR, Tabiyana Reef, Pepper Point. Everything to see you can imagine (except whale sharks). Great vis. Water 84 degrees and beautiful. First live-aboard, one of the finest trips I've been on. Crew made sure everything went without a flaw. Food: five star rating." Wind Dancer, July 1995, Dennis & Lori Pelugh, Bakersfield, CA. "Facilities first-rate. Air conditioned comfortable cabins; shower and toilet in room. Dive platform convenient, staff well organized, very accommodating. Meals gourmet. . . . Diving great, good vis, water 81 F. . . . Last day they couldn't make change for items purchased in their boutique. Problem handed from one employee to another then to the passengers." Wind Dancer, August 1995, David A. Stou, New York, NY. "Luxury boat: soft leather love seats in beautiful lounge. Food outstanding; crew gives individual attention. . . . Diving excellent; superlative at Cayos Cochinos. Vis 4080 feet, coral healthy, fish are plentiful and oversized, critters are abundant (night dives a must!). Toon Town: endless clusters of blue-bell tunicates. Dolphin dive at Anthony's Key Resort included." Wind Dancer, September 1995, Bob & Doris Schaffer, Fallbrook, CA. "Class operation. Boat well appointed and comfortable. Experienced chef, meals served beautifully. Diving good, dive crew excellent. . . . Restaurant for last night - a downer after a week of gourmet dining; members of crew have the TV blaring during day and after dinner. Between the time the bill/tips were paid and we got off the boat, the crew disappeared, looking for private time and getting the boat ready for the incoming group. Need a smoother transition to keep the outgoing guests from feeling their welcome so abruptly terminated. Great trip!" Wind Dancer, October 1995, Arthur Card, Manchester, NH. "Been aboard all four Dancers. Best diving and boat: Palau. Second best boat: Belize. Tie between Belize and Provo for diving. Sea Dancer in Provo least desirable vessel - you hear that generator. Least desirable diving: Bay Islands. . . . Other than dolphin encounter, which from land based operations, there is nothing striking! Dives a mirror of any Caribbean dive: small fish, colorful fish, soft and hard corals. Confinement of a live-aboard is NOT warranted. Most moorings will not hold Wind Dancer, compromising the sites that can be dove. Failed air conditioning and generators forced us to return to dock one night. Captain more interested in referring to his "Throne," "Command," "Perch" (in front of guests), than concerned about his guests. Threw a tantrum when he found VCR tape jackets on the wrong tapes. All guests brought to a local restaurant on Friday; while in transit we noticed one guest missing. Captain refused to turn the bus around to pick him up. (He was forced to get a cab). What a customer oriented guy." Wind Dancer, November 1995, John Spragus, Williamtown, MA. "Highlights: Boats, service, staff, diving with dolphins off Anthony's Key; Wreck Indo Trader, Sea Manta, "Toon Town". Lowlights: TACA lost our luggage (recovered at end of trip). Absence of pelagics. Lack of variety." Wind Dancer, November 1995, Joseph Warren, Burlingame, CA. "First live-aboard, well organized and run. Sites well chosen. Food well done, snacks available. Captain and crew pleasant and helpful. Cabin 2 (off the galley) too small for 2 single people. Shower lacked water pressure. Confirmed all departure and did paperwork. Lots of coral, small fish, lobsters, crabs, morays. No big critters." Wind Dancer, February 1996, D. Lowell, Sephyr Cove, NV. "Good boat, great crew, good food, good amenities. Due to weather, we didn't hit several areas I had hoped for. Novice diver could have used more help. Great little critters, swam with dolphins, found 2 octopi. Vis: 3580 ft. water: 75°77°." Wind Dancer, February 1996, Stanley Cohen, D.D.O., QC, Canada. "Max and Linda terrific, conscientious - lots fun as were Paul, Lenny, Sylvia and Daisy and Jorge. Boat roomy with good beds, hot water, wonderful food - surf and turf, crab, lobster, steak, Mexican, spaghetti, roast beef lunch and great snacks. Full compliment of movies, pop corn, fashion show, farewell slide presentation, gift slides. . . . Many reefs bleached out. Few fish - nothing compared to Little Cayman or Turks and Caicos. Sea mount and west end Roatan OK. Toon Town has tunicates but most else lacking. Dolphin den caves good dive. Tall walls and chutes-dramatic; bare shelf coral at "crayfish". vis. 50100 ft. . . . Several times 4 dives were done on one location due to rough seas; missed 7 dives as not worth the effort. Still 20 out of 27 is not bad. Did not go to Guanaja, Utila, Pigeon Cays or Bar Baretta. Pulled up their moorings there due to government interference. . . . Hot showers on dive deck - hot towels after dive. Roomy camera double table; many rinse buckets for equipment and cameras. Lockers roomy under seats for equipment. Air always 3200; 5 dives a day including night dive. . . . Roatan - the armpit of Honduras, dark bars-loud disco. Final supper at Romeo's a treat - great margueritas." Wind Dancer, May 1996, Jeffrey D. Hubbard, Glenmont, NY. "Walls off Roatan are excellent. Cayos Cochinos excellent. Sylvia the ideal divers cook. Laura and Max are excellent guides, buddies and hard working divers. water: 82°." Wind Dancer, June 1996, Hiram Patterson, Carrollton, TX. "Great meals and crew. Rooms spacious - twin lower and single upper bunk. Showers small and cramped. Camera table too small for 20 photographers. . . . Vis: 60100ft. water: 8286°. Diving not as good as Belize or Turks & Caicos. Only one or two groupers on a few dives. Trader had one large moray and 6-8 large groupers. Not much macro, mostly wide angle. Only shot two rolls then quit taking camera. First batch of photos taken by group ruined by photo pro from exhausted developer solution. . . . Stayed at Half Moon Bay prior to trip. Cabins basic, no A/C, ceiling fan. Rooms hot. Food good, not varied. Boat arranged nice day trip last day of trip. Good trip but prefer diving elsewhere." Wind Dancer, June 1996, Linda Hanley, Oak Grove, MO. "First live-aboard. Excellent service, crew helpful and pleasant. Hot towels after night dives, hot showers on deck, tanks always ready. Traveled solo, was very comfortable. vis: 50100 ft. water: 82°." Wind Dancer, June 1996, C. Douglas Rorex, Olney, IL. "Water: 82 to 83 degrees, Vis: 50 to 75 feet. Crew top notch; friendly, helpful and caring. First-class accommodations. . . . Diving good, but no better than much of the Caribbean. Cayman and Belize have better walls, Bonaire has better corals and critters. Windy, chop on water, little current. Best diving above 75 feet. They enforce a 130' limit and no solo diving. Insist on chemical tank lights even when you have battery operated light." Wind Dancer, June 1996, Joe Johnston MD, Mt. Olive, MS. "Been on all four "Dancer" live-aboards and want to continue. However, we did not go to Utila or Guanaja as expected (Aggressor went there the same week), but took 5 dives on "Eel Garden and 3 or 4 each on Tabyana and Sea Mount in Cayos Cochinos. We could have dived more sites from a land operation on the north shore of Roatan 14 of 18 people on board became ill 24 hours after being on board: dairrhea, stomach cramps, some vomiting. . . . Arrangements by Lisa Diaz at AMEX travel: excellent." Wind Dancer, July 1996, Mike Ciecierski, Columbia, MD. "Nicely appointed staterooms and dining area. Staff excellent. Sylvia's meals outstanding. Huge boat (110', 300 tons) has limited moorings. Not all places accessible. Entries/exits from dive platform. Crew always there to assist. Healthy reefs, tons of macro. Large fish not abundant. water: 80°'s vis: 4060 ft." Copyright 1997 by DSDL, Inc., publishers of Undercurrent. All rights reserved.
