Dolphin Pacific Divers, Tongan Beach Resort, October, 1994. "An excellent dive operation considering the remote location. Their 30 ft. boat of local design is well laid out, but they do need a better exit system. . . . The area is beautiful and largely untouched. Someone stays on the boat during the dive. I did not see an anchor all week. We did rendezvous dives of our charter boat so we did not stay in hotel. We did have one good meal there." Nat Gildersleeve, Friant, CA\ Dolphin Pacific Divers, Tongan Beach Resort, November, 1994. "Small 12 room beach resort. Large rooms with ceiling fan, refrigerator, and comfortable furnishings (no TV, radio, or phone). Staff informal and friendly, on firstname basis with guests. Guests gathered for cocktails in the sandfloored bar before dinner, then dined together at one large table. Guests were from Germany, Australia and New Zealand. Meals were mostly local cuisine. Two nights we had fresh fish and lamb, chicken, or beef. Large servings of everything. We were the only divers. The chef offered to put sandwiches in our room refrigerator or to keep plates of food hot for us on the nights we were diving. . . . Dive shop on property; two tank boat dives left promptly at 9:00 a.m. Patty, Grant and Decland handled all dive gear, carrying it back to our room after each dive. Guide present on every dive, but unobtrusive. Dive guides rearranged schedule at our request to do an extra night dive. Visibility consistently 150+ feet except on wreck dive, where it was about 50 feet. Reefs were pristine and packed with numerous varieties of corals. The underwater topography was dramatic, with caverns, swimthroughs and dropoffs. Saw one or two white tips on most dives; lots of clown fish and other tropicals, a banded sea snake, etc. On night dive in front of resort, one small bommie had five lion fish, two eels, a scorpion fish, and lots of crabs, clams and shrimp. Boat is comfortable, wellequipped (had oxygen), and has a covered deck. Vana'u is hard to get to, but worth it. . . . We stayed in Hawaii a few days each way to ease the time change adjustment."
