Lohifushi Island Resort, October, 1994. "About 150 bungalows spread over the island. I recommend renting a new bungalow with fully desalinated water and air conditioning (which was unable to cool the bungalow down although running all day). The bungalows are badly constructed, so you couldn't open the windows in the night. We always had at least 25 degrees C. in the rooms. You had to pay for drinking water. Food was eatable. Breakfast was sumptuous, lunch and dinner you have to eat mainly fish. On one day about 10 percent of the guests had the same problems with their stomachs, apparently from bad food. . . . Our bungalow was a ten minute walk from the dive shop and boats and restaurant. When we dove three times a day we had to walk at least six times and with the walking to the meals 12 times. Although this was surely healthy, we didn't enjoy it so much. As there were no lockers I was walking with my video camera. The dive shop was German-owned. They weren't interested to see certification cards and logbooks, but we had to do two checkout dives and no video allowed. So I couldn't tape the only shark we met. . . . On the boats you have benches and shade against the sun. You had to bring the air tank yourself on the boat and check if the tank was full. There were no spares. It was really uncomfortable to dive from the boats. . . . Visibility was terrible: about 30-50 feet. I had to shoot mostly macros. There were lots fish but we missed the mantas. The corals are not as rich and plentiful as in the Red Sea. We will not return. The food and service is bad in relation to the prices. In the Red Sea we got better price and lot more to see."
