Comments This is laid back easy diving. You are not going to see large animals but, this is good beginner diving. The reefs are healthy and colorful with short boat rides. If the season is right, you can see whales (we didn't) and the last time I was here we saw a lot of eagle rays (none this trip). Dive masters were friendly, accommodating and I never touched my gear (++++). Not much on pointing out anything unusual.

We love St. John. Around 80% of the island is a nature reserve and you can probably only hit about 30 miles an hour in a car. Lots of nice hiking trails. Very laid back island with lots of great food and good shopping. Definitely a laid back place to unplug. No chain food here.

Loved Caneel Bay. Huge 170 acre place with 7 private beaches. Lots of activities and child care included. Made it easy to use the on site dive shop. No phones or TVs in room. Again, great place to unplug.

St. John is expensive. Your are going to spend at least $30 - $40 a head for sitdown dinner (not counting liquor).

UW Photo Comments Not geared towards photography. No bucket on the boat though, they probably would accommodate serious photographers.
