Great Barrier Reef
« on: January 24, 2010, 18:11:58 UTC »
We've been thinking about a trip to celebrate our 15th year in business and have come down to the Corn Islands and the Great Barrier Reef.  Any feedback on dive operations around Cairns?  A liveaboard is financially out of the question, so we need day trips.

Hi Butch,

Corn Islands v the GBR.  Now there's apples and oranges if ever there was ; )

Of course for the GBR a liveaboard is the way to go.  Have you thought about a shorter (and less expensive) itinerary, such as those offered by Mike Ball Expeditions (http://www.mikeball.com/)?

For day trips out of Cairns I recommend Pro Dive (http://www.prodivecairns.com/about.html).  Cairns Dive Centre also offers day trips (http://www.cairnsdive.com.au/daytrip.htm) and does a good job.

Happy Anniversary and have fun.

Yeah, we know there's quite a contrast.  I didn't want to start a debate but part of the reason is previous experience, which was so miserable we won't consider a liveaboard again.  Thanks for the information!
