Looking to purchase a new regulator . . . any advice is appreciated.

Start by assessing your personal diving needs.  I am a active (dive 50 to 60 times per year) cold water diver so I purchased a Mares Ice extreme reg.  I have had it in water down to 34 degrees farenheight with no free flow to date.  If you also dive in cold water consider getting a cold water reg that is environmentally sealed to protect against free flows.  Also consider care after the buy.  If you buy locally then the dive center can most likely service the reg for you yearly.  If you dive mostly warm water then I would suggest any brand of reg that is tried and true.  For instance the abyss series in mares line but any brand that has been around will have there "go to" middle of the road (tried and true) reg.  Just do your research on brands carried by local vendors and then purchase the reg that suits your needs not just your wallet.  Safe diving
