fingernail discoloration due to diving

(1/1)

padudle:
Hello All,

I get an unusual form of decompression injury every time I dive. My fingernails get white bruises over the lunula of the nail that become apparent as the nail grows out. These marks form on my fingernails every time I dive but never on my toenails.

I think there is mild bubble formation in the growth portion of the nail bed that slightly damages the newly formed nail. I think I never get the effect in my toenails because during ascent and safety stop my toes are a good 5 feet below my fingers.

I never notice any other kind of decompression effect.

Has anyone else experienced this effect? Does it mean anything?

DiverRob:
I've been diving, and reading Dive magazines, on and off since 1979.  The only thing I recall is discoloration due to CO, and I doubt this is you.  I think you should call DAN and talk to them.  If you do, report back here so we all can learn.
