Unless your buddy is paying attention to you instead of the fish and is holding your hand, they shouldn't be counted on to helpy you. Divers MUST be self sufficient. Buddy Diving" is a falacy that ranks right up there with 'checks in the mail'. Anyone who has enough experience to actually have had bad things happen underwater (they eventually do) should know the truth about that. 99% of the ocean dives made are solo dives anyway, but the people doing them just don’t realize it. They start with the line that goes "At YOUR age"... The latest line is to insist that you need a gigantic tank--the 100 + cubic foot job that weighs over 40 pounds. This is so that you don't run out of air. And you're right! I won't! To use up that tank, I'd have to stay down way, way longer than the no-deco. limits. Then I'd have to break my back hauling this thing up and down the boat's ladder before I use a bungee cord to attach it to the deck. No way I could make a shore entry with this weight on my back. It won't fit into a standard tank holder. I outlast the guides with my little steel 50. I wonder if Paul has met some of the dive guides/divemasters I’ve met?
