Comments This was our 2nd attempt to dive the Looe Key Marine Sanctuary on the Kokomo Cat with Looe Key Reef Resort & Dive Center. Our first attempt was a December trip a few years back and we got blown out (wind & waves). This time, our luck was a little better. However, with winds out of an easterly direction, it doesn’t take long for conditions to deteriorate. We started in 2’ – 3’ waves and about 40’ of visibility. By the time we ended our 3-dive trip, we were in 3’ – 4’ waves and about 30’ of visibility. This would be very nice diving under good conditions. Looe Key Reef Resort runs a 3-tank trip. Dive times are limited to 1 hour from the time the 1st diver hits the water. Because the reef is so shallow, combined with a 60 minute dive limit, we were consistently surfacing with 2000+ PSI on 80s. But then conditions were not great so it didn’t make much difference. In between the 1st & 2nd dives, the Captain takes lunch orders (Hot Dogs or Sloppy Joe’s) for lunch between the 2nd & 3rd dives. Captain and crew were helpful and friendly. Because conditions were not particularly good, I did not rate sea life or underwater photography. This is a dive worth doing conditions permitting. Just watch the wind direction and the waves
