Comments Subic Bay diving was impressive if you want so great wrecks. The boat trip from shore to any wreck in the harbor is just mins (10 at the most) and then the quality of the wrecks is out of this world. Subic is a protected harbor that the US Navy had for a long time until turning it over to Philippines and at the time the Navy did not allow just anyone to dive there. Now it is open to all. A bit of a pain getting there and if you bring your own gear a might costly to pay the baggage fee (depending on airline)
Once there though it’s quite and not a lot of people around, word has still not gotten out as to the quality of these wrecks.
I course was taught by an ANDI instructor from Thailand (I used him there for my gas blending course) so we just hooked up with Boardwalk Dive center for the gas and boat. Very friendly staff.
The thing I am not happy with is the cost of my gas (always Nitrox 32-36 mix) I was charged over $100 a day and had to pay for the instructors gas as well, a surprise to say the least.
The boat rides as I stated, were just minutes and even here I the hellhole 0f the world I only pay $18 for a tank of 32.
I can only guess that it’s the standard "rape the Americans" motto that Philippines are known for. Only bad time is the cost.
