Comments Tufi in the northeast is a beautiful location with hills rolling down to (non-glacial) fiords that provide sheltered diving on coral reefs. Yet, the reefs are more extensive and the water more clear as one gets further away from the shore and into the ocean. Muck diving under the wharf is superb. The diving was good and could be spectacular with better management. The diving program is poorly organized and led by an inexperienced manager (who seems most intent on quoting PADI standards rather than actually providing leadership to the Papuan guides). In contrast, the Papuan guides were skillful and extremely helpful (oddly resulting in conflict with the dive manager). The reefs are overfished and no large fish or turtles to be found. The health of the corals varies from damaged to pristine. The surrounding village is fascinating, safe and worth visiting. Unfortunately, one I cannot recommend this operation until the diving program is straightened out with mature and effective leadership.
